Hospitals, clinics and other medical practices need to find effective ways to communicate with their patients at lower costs.
Each year more than 10% of patients fail to turn up for their hospital appointments, and national studies have shown that at least one third of these appointments are missed because people have simply forgotten about them. In the year to the end of April 2006, over 7 million people missed their appointments costing the NHS hundreds of millions of pounds.
It's no better for doctors; According to a joint Doctor Patient Partnership (DPP) and Institute of Healthcare Management survey, almost 17 million GP appointments and nearly 5½ million practice nurse appointments are wasted each year by patients who don’t attend. Over half of the GP surgeries which responded to the survey believe that patients simply forget about their appointments.
And dentists regularly find that over 10% of their appointments are not kept.
These are not opportunities to take a well-earned breather, instead they result in wasted time, lost revenue, and a missed opportunity for another patient to have an appointment.
